Meet Rich!

CPA | Family Wealth & Strategic Planning Director

Rich Noreen, CPA, is the Family Wealth & Strategic Planning Director at EHTC. Rich specializes in tax and business advisory services with an emphasis on closely-held businesses, high-net-worth families, private equity and family offices. Rich’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ferris State University and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Grand Valley State University. He is also a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Rich works with a wide spectrum of clients, the majority of which are families that have operating companies where he provides consulting on tax and business-related issues including assistance with tax and business aspects of acquisitions and mergers. In the past, Rich also had an active practice working with Private Equity Groups with respect to acquisitions and divestitures as well as fund issues. He also provides consulting and compliance services to their portfolio companies. The industries that are represented by these companies include manufacturing, distribution, government contractors and service organizations.

Previously, Rich was a leader with the BDO USA, LLP National Pass-Through Specialist Group and he led the West Michigan Private Client Services, providing tax and business consulting services. Rich has worked extensively with public and private charities, with work including the tax aspects of formation and operations of both public and private charities. Additionally, Rich has experience advising donors on complicated gifting strategies to numerous private and public charities. As a long-standing Board member of the Grand Rapids Public Museum, he played a vital role in moving the operations of the museum from under the City of Grand Rapids into a newly formed Foundation. Rich is also on the Board of the Literacy Center of West Michigan.

In addition to providing consulting services with respect to a family’s businesses, Rich also provides assistance with charitable, gift, estate and generation-skipping tax planning. He has significant experience in structuring joint ventures and other business combinations both domestically and internationally. This planning takes into account U.S. and foreign income tax issues, as well as wealth transfer aspects.
