Meet Matt!

ASA | Valuation Services Partner

Matt Fegan, ASA, is the Valuation Services Partner at EHTC. He has always enjoyed finance and math and originally thought he would be a Financial Advisor until he stumbled, by chance, into a career in mergers and acquisitions and loved it. Matt graduated from Michigan State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and started his professional career in finance as a Tax and Financial Advisory Intern. He then transitioned to a Healthcare Management Consulting team at a regional accounting firm, which served as his introduction to the world of mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining EHTC, Matt spent more than 11 years providing valuation services at a national accounting and consulting firm.

Matt has expertise in several areas of business valuation dating back to 2009. These include valuation of numerous ownership interests in closely held businesses and intangible assets for a wide variety of purposes such as management planning, gift and estate tax, healthcare compliance, financial reporting (ASC 350, 360, 718 and 805), employee stock ownership plans, acquisition/sale advisement, and more. He focuses his time on a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, distribution, retail, technology, transportation, and real estate.

Matt is a member of the American Society of Appraisers and holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation (Business Valuation Discipline). Additionally, he is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) – West Michigan Chapter and the Economic Club of Grand Rapids.

Matt’s typical responsibilities at EHTC involve managing client relationships and leading the valuation practice. He considers building relationships to be the most important aspect of his role at EHTC. His favorite part about working at EHTC is the team, the autonomy, and the growth mindset. His best piece of advice to those looking to work in the field of finance is to not take yourself too seriously. He believes you should work hard, but also play hard.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, as well as boating and golfing.  On weekends in the fall, you’re likely to find him in East Lansing cheering on his Spartans.
