Meet Mike!

CPA | Tax & Advisory Services Partner

Mike Young, CPA, is a Tax & Advisory Services Partner at EHTC. He originally chose the finance industry because he was attracted to the challenges brought to accountants by their clients and the opportunity they have to step in, help out, and provide meaningful results. For him, the fast-paced nature and constant learning environment helps keep things fresh and interesting.

He started his professional career working for a ‘Big Four’ accounting firm in Minneapolis, then moved back to Grand Rapids to work for another large firm. Having experienced the big firm scene for a few years, Mike made the transition to EHTC in 2013.

At EHTC, Mike is a leader in EHTC’s Advisory Services Department, which works with West Michigan businesses to provide exit strategy planning, transaction structuring, and tax and financial due diligence. Due diligence, an imperative step for companies looking to purchase or sell a business, involves assessing financial data and tax compliance to ensure the company’s financial representation and tax filings are accurate, eliminating any surprises or financial exposure that may arise after transactions are closed.

Mike’s industry focus includes manufacturing, real estate, construction, insurance, and IT managed services.

When asked what he likes most about working at EHTC Mike said, “Easy; the people. I’m fortunate enough to work with incredibly smart, fun, and thoughtful professionals every day.” Mike’s best piece of advice to anyone looking into the field of business and finance would be to get an internship at a firm, no matter the size, and to be a sponge to your environment. He also advises others to commit to learning every day, be receptive to feedback, and reference your workpapers. 

When not in the office, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, Kate, and their two young children. He’s an avid fisherman, committed Spartan fan, and in his words, “a struggling golfer.”
